Product Description
Former attorney, county prosecutor and Michigan Supreme Court Justice, John Voelker (alias Robert Traver) was born in 1903 in Ishpheming, Michigan in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. He "somehow survived the awesome experience of having spawned a National Best Seller, "ANATOMY OF A MURDER." Voelker was the defense attorney in the trial upon which the book is based. He used the pen name of Robert Traver thinking it would seem inappropriate for a sitting judge to also be a crime novelist. Shorty after the book was optioned, director/producer Otto Preminger convinced Voelker to take a leave of absence from the court so that he could be a consultant during the production of the movie; filmed entirely on location Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

The movie, released in 1959, starred Jimmy Stewart, George C. Scott, Lee Remick, Ben Gazarra and Eve Arden, among many others. After the film was released, Voelker never returned to the bench. He did, however, continue writing novels and books on trout fishing while 'scrupulously maintaining' his devotion to playing cribbage, mushroom hunting. trout fishing, and just living life...his way. This intimate portrait of John Voelker was filmed in 1982 when the author was in his late 70's. Produced by Academy Award-winning Sue Marx.
