Internationally acclaimed fiber artist, Gerhardy Knodel is seen working in his studio at Cranbrook Academy of Art, where he subsequently became the Dean of the Art Academy. No ordinary weaver, Knodel is interested in massive, woven architectural sculptures and gossamer fabrics that seem to clothe the architecture. We see the artist working closely with the Churchill Weavers in Berea, Kentucky as his samples are transformed into yards of glorious fabric by the folk weavers who often work with him on his large commissions. Major installations at the Renaissance Center in Detroit and the Xerox Corporation in Stamford, Connecticut are explored. Finally we see the artist directing the intricate process of installing a major woven sculpture, four stories high, in the lobby of a large bank in Miami, Florida. Knodel's work evokes a feeling of exhilaration as the eye delights in the wonders of his shimmering work. Produced by Academy Award-winning Sue Marx.
